How it works
- The key color is auto-detected as the median color of the frame's border pixels — robust even when the subject grazes an edge.
- Every pixel's distance from that color drives its alpha: solidly on-color pixels go fully transparent, solidly off-color pixels stay fully opaque, and the band between the two feathers smoothly.
- A despill pass pulls the color-family channel back down near the edges, so you don't get a green (or magenta) fringe halo.
- Small disconnected color specks near the subject are dropped as stray islands.
- Preview the result in the checkerboard player, then download the current frame or the whole clip as a ZIP of transparent PNGs.
Why the color swatch matters
Auto-detection reads the actual border pixels of your first frame, which is more reliable than assuming pure green (#00FF00) — real footage is rarely that clean, and compression drifts the color slightly. If the swatch looks wrong (for example the backdrop has an uneven light gradient, or the subject touches the border in frame one), override it with the color picker; every frame re-keys instantly. Magenta screens work the same way — this tool infers the despill family (green, magenta, blue, and others) from whichever color you give it.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

Why does the edge still look a little fringed?
Despill removes color contamination on the edge pixels, but very compressed source video (heavy JPEG-style block artifacts near the subject) can still leave faint color noise that no automatic pass fully erases. Try a less-compressed source clip for cleaner edges.
What if the auto-detected key color is wrong?
Use the color picker next to the swatch to override it — every frame re-keys with the new color immediately, no re-upload needed.
Can I get a sprite sheet out of this instead of a ZIP of frames?
This tool is deliberately single-purpose (background removal only). Download the ZIP and feed the frames into the sprite sheet maker, or use Sprite Studio for keying and sheet export in one pass.
